About the project

About the project

In August 2014 the Ecological Fund Office in the Presidency awarded Foundation Years the rehabilitation and erosion control works at the Kubanni Dam water project, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Formally the de-silting and protection of the Kubanni impoundment reservoir from environmental pollution, the project was supervised by consulting engineers Vibro Engineering Company Limited.

The works de-silted the reservoir and extended its spillway. Two planned sediment trap dams would have sat on land outside the University, so at the University's request the client agreed to put those funds into a new water treatment works instead.

The plant can treat about one million litres of water a day for the University. Building it meant extending the raw water pumping station below the dam embankment for two new pumps, laying a 200 mm pipeline from the dam to the plant, and building a two-million-litre reinforced concrete raw water tank.

Construction ran from August 2014 to June 2015, well inside the sixteen-month contract period.
